Driver Qualifications & Requirements

Professional Drivers. High Standards. Safe Operations.

At JASKO Enterprises, Inc., we believe safe and reliable transportation starts with qualified, experienced, and responsible drivers.

Our hiring standards are designed to meet federal regulations, insurance requirements, and JASKO's operational expectations. We evaluate each applicant's driving experience, safety record, employment history, and overall qualifications.

We understand that every driver's background is different. While certain requirements are mandatory, others are preferred, and qualified applicants are considered individually.

Requirements

What It Takes

Straightforward qualifications for professional drivers.

  • Minimum age: 23 years
  • Valid Class A CDL
  • Experience: 2 years OTR preferred; exceptions subject to approval
  • Driving record: acceptable MVR and PSP under JASKO's driver standards
  • Accidents: preventable accidents, severity, and history are reviewed
  • Violations: speeding, reckless driving, suspensions, and serious traffic violations are reviewed
  • DUI / DWI: reviewed under JASKO's driver standards and applicable disqualification rules
  • Drug & alcohol: FMCSA Clearinghouse compliance and pre-employment DOT testing
  • SAP / return-to-duty: generally not preferred; a 3-year screening threshold applies, and each case is decided by JASKO
  • Medical: current DOT medical qualification
  • Employment history: verified as required by FMCSA
  • Background check: company screening and any customer-specific requirements
  • FMCSA qualification: must meet applicable 49 CFR Parts 383, 391, and 382
  • Equipment: capable of safely operating JASKO tractors and refrigerated trailers
  • Company policies: must comply with JASKO safety, ELD, dashcam, and operating policies — including cargo security, refrigerated-freight procedures, and communication expectations
  • Refrigerated freight: able to operate refrigerated equipment safely — verify temperature settings, inspect trailers, secure freight, and report temperature or cargo discrepancies promptly. Training is provided on JASKO equipment and procedures
  • Technology: able to use electronic logging devices, communication tools, and electronic document submission. Instruction is provided during orientation
  • Onboarding: completes JASKO's onboarding process, including the practical driving evaluation, before independent dispatch

Don’t check every box? Apply anyway — we review the whole record, not just the checklist. One limit applies to every applicant: federal disqualifications cannot be waived.

Three Levels of Driver Approval

A valid CDL alone does not make a driver eligible to drive with JASKO. All three levels must be satisfied.

1 — FMCSA Qualified

The driver meets federal qualification, licensing, medical, and drug & alcohol requirements (49 CFR Parts 383, 391, and 382).

2 — Insurable

The driver meets the insurability requirements JASKO maintains under its insurance program.

3 — JASKO Approved

The driver meets company hiring standards, completes onboarding, and receives authorization to operate under JASKO's authority.

Eligibility Questions

It's preferred, not an absolute cutoff. Exceptions are subject to approval — recruiting reviews your whole record, not just the years.

SAP cases are generally not preferred. A 3-year screening threshold applies, and every SAP case is reviewed and decided by JASKO before a driver can be cleared.

DUI/DWI history is subject to insurance eligibility and applicable disqualification rules. There is no single published cutoff — the record is reviewed under JASKO's driver standards.

Preventable accidents (their severity and history) and violations such as speeding, reckless driving, suspensions, and other serious traffic violations are all reviewed as part of the MVR and underwriting check.

JASKO does. Our standards are built on the federal FMCSA qualification rules and the requirements of our insurance program — but the standards themselves, and every hiring decision, are JASKO's.

Yes — approval requires current DOT medical qualification. If yours has lapsed, talk to recruiting about timing before you travel for orientation.

Yes. Out-of-state applicants are considered. Before hiring, JASKO reviews your transportation to orientation, home-time expectations, and approved parking arrangements for company equipment.

Yes — a practical driving evaluation is part of JASKO's onboarding, completed before independent dispatch. It is separate from the CDL skills test you already passed.

Yes. Two years of OTR is preferred, not an absolute cutoff — recruiting reviews your complete record, including the kind of freight you have run.

Home parking must be approved, particularly when a company trailer or loaded freight is involved. Recruiting works out the arrangement with you before you start.

No. Hiring remains subject to qualification, insurability, screening, and final JASKO approval.
